Bringing in 2013 in Style

Goodbye 2012.  Hello 2013.

So, how did we do on our resolutions from last year?
1) Consume all produce from garden.  The garden bombed hard core this year, so we didn't get much of anything out of it.  Therefore....we were successful with this one!  hahah

2) Center meals around local and in season produce.  I would say we did quite well on this.  I went to the farmer's market often and made most all of our meals around what is in season.  We ate a lot of squash this fall  ;)

3) Fix my leg so Snoops and I can run again.  I did go to a massage place (Tri-Covery in Novi) and got great results from that.  Running is starting to lose my interest now that it takes a lot of extra things (massages, strength training, etc) to be able to do it pain free.  It was much more appealing when I could just run out the door and not worry about having to ice when I got home....  Starting out this new year with a 1 year gym membership and 15 bikram yoga classes!  :)

4) New Eco-Friendly Kitchen.  Our kitchen is almost finished!  Still need (to the best of my knowledge): Trim, Backsplash, Front Door, Dining and "hallway" lights, Window lights and a vent hood.  We went more the frugal route than the eco-friendly route..but these can sometimes go hand in hand.  Here are some notable accomplishments with the kitchen:

  • Installed new hardwood kitchen floors and refinished the dining room floor to match (re-use!)
  • Did almost all of the work ourselves.  Had granite professionally installed and some help from family.
  • Reuse trim boards and vents.
  • Craigs listed all of the kitchen.  Appliances and cupboards.  Only had to throw out the oven/microwave combo and that got picked up by one of the metal collectors.
  • Used the laundry room as a make-shift kitchen and made a lot of meals at home during the renovation.
  • LED lights under cabinets.
  • Replaced the back kitchen door and used the old one for the garage.

5) Make our own english muffins, yogurt toppings and cleaning supplies.  With the kitchen renovation I was not able to make english muffins for Josh..but I just started making them again today!  Once again, with the kitchen, we started buying the individual yogurts, but we had started the year out buying a large plain yogurt and blending it up with fruit for the week.  Finally, I made bathroom cleaner and furniture conditioner from scratch.

So, onto the fun stuff...FOOD!  Just how did we bring in the new year?  Appetizers, champagne and lobster!

Sounds a little gross, right?  A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

French Onion Soup Potstickers from Iowa Girl Eats
I was not the best at keeping the onions in the wonton wrappers...and now I have a TON of onion left over. French Onion Soup Casserole???

Lobster Tails!!!

Did not really know what I was doing...but they still turned out!  :)

Today, I made Chicken Broccoli Alfredo from Iowa Girls Eats  (new favorite blog?  yeah..I think so..)

Then for dinner, we had Smoky BBQ Chili from Oh She Glows
This chili was yuuummmmmy!!!  I ruined the vegan-ness with sour cream and cheese.

So, what does 2013 have to bring?  Well 2 good things - Josh and I are gettin' hitched!!!   AND I will be finishing my Masters Degree!!!  No other resolutions than that.  Eating healthy and exercising are a given  ;)

Maybe more quality time with the puppy?  How can I not snuggle with something as cute as this?

Happy 2013!!
