Society of Women Engineers Region H Conference @ Michigan Tech! 2014!

I woke up Valentines day at 4:30AM, to get ready and board a bus to Houghton Michigan for the SWE Region H Conference!

And what do I find on the table after starting the coffee?  Flowers from my love.

These were made even more special because they are the first flowers I have ever received from Joshua.  I got him Japanese Donuts from Pastry House Hippo and a chocolate scavenger hunt (of which he didn't discover until walking the dog in the afternoon)  :)  Oh and I had to help him find the rest of the clues when I got home Sunday because he thought he was finished when he was only half way through..hah

So, at 6AM, I boarded a bus bound for Houghton!  11 hours later, we arrived!

I met up with my good friend Rachel for a valentines date.  We had a great time going to all our favorite downtown Houghton drinking establishments ;)

The Ambo for Fish Bowls & Garlic Chicken Pizza

The Keewenaw Brewing Company for BEER

And the Dog for a Pickled Egg and more KBC Beers!

Oh Houghton, how I miss thee sometimes...

Saturday I woke up early to head to the Michigan Tech campus for breakfast and key note speeches.

Then myself and 3 other women presented on our Annual Detroit Outreach event - Girls' Engineering Exploration

After lunch and a few breakout sessions, we headed back to the hotel room for 20 minutes of downtime before the banquet.

The weather proved to be too terrible and our keynote speaker's plane was unable to land.  So, with us being the engineers that we are, we skyped her in to give her speech.

And I had another KBC :)

After the banquet, I took my SWE friends downtown to the Dog where I fed them pickled eggs and KBC and reflected on how excited I was to share a little piece of Houghton with some awesome people.

Good thing I get to return to Houghton 2 more times this year :)
